As these memorable days, August 20 to 30 1970, in Nairobi draw to a close, the general council wishes to put on record its deep gratitude to the many who have helped and forwarded this whole enterprise.

We have enjoyed our stay in Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya, and were deeply grateful for the message from his excellency the president, conveyed to us at the service in the Church of the Torch, Kikuyu, on Sunday August 23, by his minister for information and broadcasting, the Hon JJM Nyagah. We particularly appreciated his excellency's acknowledgement of the contribution to his country made by the Scottish mission, and also the minister's own expressed hopes of greater Christian unity in Kenya. We extend our thanks to all the national and civic authorities, grateful also for the hospitality of her worship the mayor of Nairobi, councillor Miss MW Kenyatta CBS.

Our meetings and administration have been suitably housed in the teaching blocks of University College, Nairobi, and meals and accommodation provided in its halls of residence. We express our thanks to the principal of the University, Dr GN Karanja, who also graciously opened the art exhibition at St Andrew's Church; and also to all the workers and domestic staff.

The Presbyterian Church of East Africa has provided a living context of Christian faith and church life for this general council, and of our host church all the delegates carry away cherished memories. We thank Rt Rev C Kiongo, moderator; Rev John G Gatu, general secretary; and Rev Bernard Muindi; and the whole church; also Rev Ian Paterson and Rev George Wanjau, ministers, with the kirk session and members of St Andrew's Church; and the board of women's work of the PCEA, especially Mrs Priscilla Mereka, who rendered such a valuable service in organizing the women's rally.

The general council hold in high esteem and affection Rev D Dr Wilhelm Niesel, last president of the former WARC, and Dr Ashby E Bladen, last moderator of the separate ICC, acknowledging all that they have done for the ease and success of this meeting.

We thank Mr Alun L Hughes, who opened up the WARC office in Nairobi, and has been such a tower of strength behind the scenes. Tribute has already been paid to Rev Dr Marcel Pradervand, and with his name we link that of Rev Fred Kaan, acknowledging their part in the preparation and organization of the general council. Miss Paulette Piguet, a notably faithful servant of the Alliance; Rev Richmond Smith; and the whole secretarial staff can be assured of our sincere appreciation. We record particular thanks to Rev Edmond Perret, the new general secretary, who has once again organized the team of interpreters, to whom we are also indebted. The stewards have also endeared themselves to us all by their kindness, courtesy and attentiveness. The IBM equipment for simultaneous translation has been provided and maintained through MrA de Cuypere and Mr P Draye, ably assisted by a team provided by Mr IG Desai, chief engineer of the University. We acknowledge the hard work done by the staff of the Press Centre under the leadership of the associate director, Mrs Sally Andrews.

A special vote of thanks is hereby accorded to Mr Georges Lombard who has served as General treasurer of the former WARC for the past two decades; and to Mr Kenneth W Thorndyke who has similarly served the ICC for over 11 years.

Those who have so willingly undertaken special tasks at the general council, as speakers, and in committees, sections, and other special assignments, along with the members of the two retiring executive committees who have served as Steering committee, are now most gratefully thanked. In particular we wish to thank Dr JI McCord for his leadership as General chairman; Professor J Moltmann for his inspiring introductory address; Professor E Schweizer for his stimulating bible study presentations; and Dr W Timmermans who led the former Department of women's work.

Finally, in expressing sincere gratitude to so large a company of devoted Christian people who have helped so much in such various manners, the general council renders humble thanks to Almighty God within whose providence and grace Nairobi 1970 has taken place.
