The 22nd WARC general council expresses its heartfelt thanks to all who have contributed to our life and work together here in Seoul:

  • to our member churches in Korea, the Presbyterian Church of Korea (PCK) and the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea (PROK), and their moderators, Rev Lim Oak (PCK) and Rev Park Bong-Yang (PROK), for hosting this general council, for surrounding us with prayer and hospitality, and for welcoming us into their congregations and homes throughout the Korean peninsula;
  • to the Korean preparatory committee, its chairperson, Dr Kim Hyung Tae, its coordinator Dr Kim Yong-Bock, and all its members, for their efforts before and during the council to make this gathering possible;
  • to the Korean women's preparatory committee, for the moving and significant communion service at the close of the pre-council women's conference;
  • to the organizers and participants of the pre-council women's conference and the youth rally;
  • to the worship committee, whose efforts before and during the council - especially in the production of the worship book - made our worship together vital and uplifting; and to all worship leaders, singers, musicians, and participants;
  • to those who contributed to and organized the exhibit of children's drawings on our general council theme, and the exhibit of Korean Christian art;
  • to all who planned and participated in the evening programmes, which in imaginative and profound ways helped us to get better acquainted as a global family;
  • to the moderators and vice-moderators of sections and committees, and to Bible study leaders, presenters, and drafters, who sought to aid and guide our often difficult and complex discussions;
  • to all Korean and Geneva staff, stewards and other volunteers, who laboured - often day and night - in our midst or behind the scenes to undergird our work as delegates: taking care of registration, housing, transportation, invoices. setting up meeting rooms, and answering a never-ending series of question;
  • to all those - staff, stewards, and volunteers - who also laboured day and night, and without whom we could not have communicated in words at all: the interpreters of our speech, and the translators, typists, printers, collators, and distributors of our endless written words;
  • to the press who shared our actions and messages with the wider public; and to the taker of our minutes who has recorded our words for posterity;
  • to the participants from non-member Reformed churches and the ecumenical participants for enriching our fellowship and discussions; and to all who organized and participated in the visitors' programme;
  • to Yonsei University, for the use of its facilities and the cooperation of its staff;
  • to those who prepared our meals, transported us to our lodgings, and saw to our comfort;
  • to the outgoing executive committee, its officers and moderators, for their hard work and commitment to WARC From Ottawa to Seoul; and especially to the officers and department moderators whose elected service to the Alliance is at an end: vice- presidents Rev Mrs Ansley Coe Throckmonon and Bishop Karoly Toth; and department moderators Mr John Gilbey, Rev Roland Revet, and Prof Dr Lukas Vischer;
  • to the WARC staff of Geneva, both secretariat and office staff for their diligence and long hours on behalf of the Alliance, both in Geneva and during this general council;
  • to the oversight group of the executive committee who, with the staff, took on the difficult task of planning and coordinating the details of this general council; and in particular, to Rev Jean-Jacques Bauswein who, during the past year, has voluntarily given his time and talents to the preparation of the general council, and who, with grace and humour, has continued here in Seoul to pick up the pieces which the rest of us have dropped;
  • and to Dr Edmond Perret who, in his long and faithful service as general secretary of WARC, has never let the temptations of bureaucracy overshadow his humanity and faith, but has always appeared as the person he is - a man who cares deeply about the gospel and about people, and who has an abiding commitment to the work of the Alliance.

First and last, we give thanks to God, who in mercy and love has called us into the fellowship of Jesus Christ, and who through the Holy Spirit forms and reforms us - despite our fits and starts - into the body of Christ, for the sake of the world and to the glory of God.
