The Reformed Family Worldwide handbookEarly 1999 saw the publication of The Reformed Family Worldwide, a pioneering attempt at a comprehensive survey of Reformed churches, theological schools and international organizations. The volume, initiated by the John Knox International Reformed Centre in Geneva, was the fruit of five years of intense work by a global team led by Jean-Jacques Bauswein and Lukas Vischer. It was published by William B Eerdmans in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

By agreement with Eerdmans, an electronic version of this text is now available on the Reformed online website sponsored by the Johannes a Lasco library in Emden, Germany. It can be consulted at www.reformed-online.net.

The book has been widely admired and is one of the most frequently consulted reference works on the Alliance's shelves. Inevitably, however, it suffers from some inaccuracies and omissions. Churches and schools that had resolutely declined to respond to all enquiries suddenly woke up to protest that they had been misrepresented or just left out.

A first set of corrections has been made to the electronic version. The aim now is to produce a second, more thoroughly revised, edition for the web. Reformed online and the John Knox Centre will send out a new questionnaire to all known Reformed churches and theological schools. The Alliance will cooperate with them so far as our own member churches are concerned. We hope that member churches will respond promptly, updating their statistics and other data and revising their history where necessary. This will help to make The Reformed Family Worldwide an even more useful resource.
