Gender awareness workshop scheduled for Czech Republic

The third in a series of regional workshops on gender awareness and leadership development is to be held in the Czech Republic at the Dom Sola Fidé Conference Centre in Yanské Lázné, nestled in the eastern part of the Krkonose [giant] mountains. The department of partnership of women and men is busy preparing the meeting. Invitations have gone out to all WARC member churches in central and eastern Europe, and the agenda, now in its final stages of preparation, was drawn up by women of the region.

Staff of the Evangelical Church of the Czech Brethren have graciously offered to help organize the meeting. About 21 delegates from countries as near as Romania and as far away as Greece are expected to attend. They will be representing churches whose communities have experienced most of the 20th century as a period of internecine warfare, shifting borders, economic and social upheaval, and cultural fragmentation. More than 12 languages will be spoken during the meeting. Interpretation will be possible in German and English. German, it is said, is the second language of the "older" generation, while English is fast becoming the second language of the "younger" generation. We hope that these two will be adequate for the task set before us.
