The wolf shall live with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the kid, the calf and the lion and the fatling together, and a little child shall lead them... They will not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain; for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea. Isaiah 11.6, 9 This issue concludes the two-parter on "Theology and Human Rights" we began last June. The first four papers, by Russel Botman, Charles Harper, Julio de Santa Ana and Sun Soon-Hwa, formed the four foci of the consultation on this theme held in cooperation with the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) and the World Council of Churches (WCC) in March 1997. These are followed by an extract from the aide-mémoire of the consultation summarizing the biblical reflection that took place. This owes a great deal to the provocative contributions by Walter Brueggemann, which were felt by more than one participant to be a high point of the meeting. Finally, we complement the reviews by Jill Schaeffer and Clement John of the work of the Alliance and the WCC in this area which we carried in June by Jan-Olav Henriksen's survey of the development of Lutheran thought on this subject. We regret to say that the interval between the appearance of the first and second issues of this two-parter was marked, and marred, by the untimely death of Sun Soon-Hwa. Her loss will be felt keenly in Hanil University and far beyond. We dedicate this issue to her memory. Requiescat in pace. Páraic Réamonn
